dyana, tell us why youare considering the .260?

I have been shooting a Ruger M77 in 6.5mm Swede for the last 6yrs and have no complaints!

well lets see, first for it's flat trajectory 2nd I heard it has a long range because of blistering muzzel speed all with little recoil as Im thinking about a bolt action.

thanks Rebel hog thats a informative article which solidifies everything I'd heard, except for the volocity I though it was faster but with a smaller grain bullet it makes up for it.

dynatec,
I have posted the picture of the moose I took in Alberta in 1995 with the Ruger 6.5mm Swede and 156gr Norma"Alaska" ammo! I have many different calibers and the 6.5mm has betterpenetration than all I have in the safe. As you already readthe article, the 6.5mmSwede just has a little morepower than the .260, but are real close in comparison!

Once again...you cant hardly go wrong with any of the 6.5's 6.5x55, 260, 264 etc. Good guns! Most manuals show the 260 as faster but I cant see it with the swede being larger in capacity. Must be because of the old Mausers out there in 6.5x55 not having quite the pressure limits as the new ones. Maybe its efficiency..lol..I dont really know. But either will kill deer like the Hammer of Thor

Dynatec. You better get to the store before Doe Dumper does if you want a 260.If DD had a santa like RH and ME, he might find one under the Xmas tree. YEAH RIGHT!!.

Like Doe Dumper said. The loads for the 6.5x55 are kept lower because of the old Mauser actions. The 260 has never been chambered in anything but modern actions. ( from the factory anyway) I had a 700 Remington Classic in 6.5x55 and you could load that one to its full potential. Some manuals show modern loads then suggest that loaders of the old Mausers drop a grain or two of powder. I think I am going to put together a 6.5-06 and may go to the Ackly Imp. version. WHY?? I don't know.

From what I've read on it the .260 is a heck of a deer getter. If I didn't have a 270 and a 7-08, I would probably have one of these. It is one of those cartridges that you can start a youngin out with and use forever without any worries.
