A 7mag with a max load and a 140gr bullet is pushing 3340fps out of a 24" test barrel.

I wished!!! I am using one of the hottest powders for the 7mag (rl22) and out of a 24" barrel using 140 B/T's Im lucky if I can get the chrony to hit 3100 fps. I dont know if its the bullets, or just my gun. But Im shooting average groups of .75 so Im not really worried about the loss in speed. I am beginning to ignore all of the speeds posted in those manuals I havent found one that is within 100 fps of any of my guns. [:@]

While we all have bullets we don't trust let me say millions of deer, hogs, elkare killed each year, of those millions Nosler B Tips are used more than most I expect. Some will fail, the only way to find a defective bullet is to use it. I won't use core locks anymore for this reason same with SST's, even though I recoved all the deer shot with these bullets the performance was less than I liked. The 243, I've seen more deer wounded with this round than I like, but I've seen more wounded with the 30.30. We need to use the right tool for the job, and we need to practice. Don't use a 30.30 for field's, and don't use 300 ultra mags in the thickets.

LOL Crimedog I have never had a core lokt let me down. Weird how all this stuff works..lol. I have had one core lokt explode and leave about 4 holes out the other side of a deer...lol...but this didnt do anything good for the deers well being.

I have had no problemsexceeding 3200fps with a 24" barrel and 140gr ballistic tips using r-22.

I never was able to exceed 3200 FPS with my Ruger 7MM Mag without pressure signs. May have been just my gun. I had a 26 inch barreled 280 that would match that or come very close.
