For most of the stupid warnings out there, there was probably one or more people who proved the warnings were needed.

DM I agree with you to a point, but when you are laid up with a broke leg and all you see on TV all friggin day is "you have been wronged hire me so I can get you what you have coming" does say the vultures aren't waiting for things to die any more. When I was a young man (just say a few days ago) there was a suit that was won because ladders didn't have a warning stating that manure may become slippery if it thaws, common sense heck what is that any more

One of the reasons why I won't buy any more Rugers. Its blatantly obvious that they care more about answering to lawyers and protecting the lowest common denominator from themselves than giving the customer a good looking product[:'(]

The last Ruger I bought was a Bearcat. It had really fineroll stampings on the cylinder that were more than canceled out by the 'owners manual' on the barrel that looked like it was stamped on by some brute with a sledge hammer.

the stamp on gun barrels " warning thisfirearm is dangerous"
If you are seeking conclusive proof that humanity has no hope left, I give you this demented label. What do people think a gun is and does? I know that lawyers have to be involved, but even when you factor in the product-liability racket, there is still a certain Alice in Wonderland quality to this warning.
Maybe we should put a sign on the front of every locomotive that reads, DO NOT STAND ON TRACKS WHILE TRAIN IS IN MOTION. Or on the steering columns of automobiles: FAILURE TO DEPRESS BRAKE PEDAL WHEN APPROACHING STATIONARY OBJECTS AT HIGH SPEED CAN LEAD TO SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH.
Anyone who can explain this phenomenon can probably also tell us why Paris Hilton is famous.
In Copperas Cove TX one time there was a woman who went to the local Gibson's Discount store and bought an O/U double-barreled Remington style Derringer. She loaded it, cocked the hammer, pointed it at themiddle of her left hand, and put a bullet right through her hand! She then sued the maker of the gun and Gibson's! (I don't recall whether the basis of her suit was that the gun was faulty, or the claimthat Gibson's should NOT have soldthe gun to an idiot!)

Since her suit was brought in a Texas court, she didn't get very far with it. But I have often wondered if she had read the owners manual for that pistol before she shot herself with it?? I doubt that a warning on the barrel would have helped her much![:'(]

You know I thought I read these exact words in this months "Field & Stream" magazine. While I think this is an interesting topic, maybe you should give credit to the original author (David E. Petzal) before posting it as your own words.

Everyone wants to blame a lawyer, how about the money grabbing person who hired him/her????????????????????

It's all about "average people" getting greedy andlooking fora way to get some "instant" money!!!

Those warning were forced there by the court system, because some "average person" hired a lawyer and sued!!

No one hired lawyers to sue tobacco company's. they did that on their own, and asked people to join in on the class action. But who took 40 percent of the lump sump ? While the rest had to be divied up.

They ought to sue them again....

By now"every one" SHOULD know what tobaco does to you, but when i was a kid the tobaco companys said it was "good for you" and would "calm your nerves" and on and on and ON! Yes, it does sound stupid now, but back then folks believed them, and paid for it with there lives!!!

They even spiked the tobacco to make it more adictive!!

I have NO use for the tobacco companys or those that run them! They nearly got away with murder! (and in some ways still are)

Uh, yeah, words appeared under your byline with no credit to the original author. You are taking credit for another man's work. That ain't cool. Telling someone to "chill" because you got busted for plagiarism and possible copyright infringement- priceless!
