I'd get a nice set of peep sights for it. Iether the williams or XS systems ghost ring. The XS is one of the most accuratre ghost rings due to its flat top front post. Its a lot more precise than a bead front.

If it were me I would leave it with open sights or install a peep. Then I would use this as an excuse to go buy that bolt action rifle and scope! By the way, you should really give the Savage a look. Bought a model 16 in 270 wsm last year andI'm really impressed with it.

I would leave it as a open sight as well. I have 4 lever actions guns and 3 of them are scoped. I mainly have mine scoped because we hunt hogs at night and with a good scope I can see things I can't see with open sights. Though during the day I perfer the open sights.

LOL!!! I already have it planned out and told the wife. I said that the 30-30 is a classic brush gun and is only good to 100 yards. It is best for out in the thick woods, slow stalk hunting, and then a hunter can get a quick shot off when bumping into adeer. But a nice bolt action .270 with a 3-9x40 scope would really be best for long shots 200 yards away and not for use in the thick brush. My wife understood the two types of rifles and their intended purposes. Cool!!! [8D] Now I have to check out Savage's website and look at their models.

Butch,

I got a Savage 110 in .270 this year and love it...even took up reloading for it. I got it at Wally world as a package with a Simmons 3x9x40 scope for $350. The scope is ok for now, but I plan to replace it before next season. I love the Savage accu-trigger, if you pick one up make sure it has that...I think older inventory may not have it.

I found this on Savage's website.... A nice checkered walnut stock lefty rifle! Nice... very nice... I have to find one of these and check it out.
