Default What Scope?

Been considering replacing the Weaver V4.5 scope on my turkey gun, a Tikka 12 ga./.222 O/U. Eye relief concerns me a little, when shooting the 12 ga. with max. loads. Been lumped on the nose from ill-fitted optics and other things enough over the years.
Anyone out there got any advice on what to get?

Several companies make scopes for shotguns. If you can still find an old Aetec, they had five inches of eye relief. More than almost any scope in the industry. We don't use shotguns for deer so I have no expierence other than selling them when I was a dealer. Bushnell Makes a varible shotgun/muzzle loader scope.

Trailer--- Naturally, I don't want to over-spend, but I'm not too concerned about price. Quality is important. I'm basically a Leupold person, with a sprinkling of Redfields here and there. The Weaver was on the Tikka when I bought it, and has performed O.K., but I think I would like a little more magnification than what it gives. I generally hunt with variables set at 6x. My fixed-powers are mostly 6x, hence my concern.
We've got about a year to figure this out, as rifle season for turkey here in Pennsylvania is over for this year, and the Spring gobbler season is shotgun only.

Pawildman, You can get a number of scopes with good eye relief from Leupold and Bushnell among others but Bushnell has the Banner Cantilever 1.75-4 x 32 with a 6” eye relief. Leupold also has some shotgun scopes in the 1-4 and 2-7 power with 3.8 to 4.9 of eye relief in there scopes. I have no experience in either brands as far as shotgun scope although I did look at the Bushnell Banner Cantilever and it looked pretty good in the store that is.

Now I do have the Nikon Monarch Gold 1.5-6 x 42 mm with a constant 4” eye relief that I use on my Winchester 1300 Black Shadow shotgun. This scope is probably more then what you would like to spend but it’s an excellent scope. It’s a solid scope with excellent glass for dusk or dawn use. I’ve used it for 2 years with no regrets. This Nikon is designed for rifle use and the parallax is probably set for a little farther then shotgun scopes but I’ve had no problems.

I also would have to agree with James on the Aetec with 5” of eye relief although mine is sitting idol for the time being, waiting for a rifle. Good luck in your hunt for a new scope.

James B.--- Thanks for the advice on the Aetec----I'll keep my eye out for one at the trade-in counters, and gun shows.
