Red said it all, its to bad we might loss the 7mmwsm, as ever one has 270 imbeaded in there mines, from what Jack Oconnor wrote but if you read everything he wrote he did say the 7mm was a better bullet. I see the 7mmwsw doing quite well at long range shooting at benchrest and I believe it holds some records, I have never seen a a 270 at benchrest or hold any records. Go to Lost River Bullets and look up what a fellow shot with 7mm, 18' group at 2000 yards, pretty awsome.

Is that an 18 foot group or an 18 inch group? LOL. I hope you forgot to hit the shift key before you hit the quotation mark. I can't even imagine shooting an 18" group at 2000 yards. What kind of scope was he using?

Default 7 Rem vs 7 Wby

I own several of both, and I definitely favor the Weatherbys. If you reload or even shop around, ammo for the Weatherby rifles is about the same as the 7 Rem. About 18 months ago I saw a listing for 270, 7mm and 300 Weatherby brass and bought 6 boxes of 7mm for $150. I prefer to load my own ammo and I find about 320 ft/s difference in my 7mm Weatherbys and the 7mm Rem Mag Tika. All three guns have 26" Barrels. The Tika is about 1.6" groups and both of the Weatherbys are .6 inch groups with 154gr Hornadys. Maybe an animal doesn't know the difference between the speeds, but I have never had anything move after being hit with the Weatherbys. I can't say the same for the Tika. I also have a BAR in 7mm Rem mag and It shoots better than the Tika and also seems to hit harder, why I don't know. The Browning has less recoil than the 270's I own and is a pleasure to shoot. I hunt everything from Javelina to Moose with the 7mm Weatherby rifles. I just found a deal on 257 Weatherby ammo ($32.00/box) and bought all 7 boxes they had. I have some Weatherby brass I have reloaded 11 times. Rem mag is good for about 5 to 7 reloads. You get what you pay for.

Shoot a 7mm Rem Mag in a 26 inch barrel and the ballistic difference between it and the 7mm Wby is peanuts.

The difference comes in to play when you start buying ammo and/or brass. I'll take the Remington any day of the week and twice on Sunday. Mine is a Browning A Bolt. 26 in. barrel. Love it.

As the ole' saying goes; "the 7MM RM shoots as flat a the .270 and hits as hard as the .30-06."

I like that !!!

No need for the Weatherby, unless you mean one of their rifles.

If I need anymore than that, I own a .338 WM..............................

Very true.

Once upon a time the proprietary Weatherby cartridges were head and radius shoulder above most others available commercially.

Not so much any more.

BIAS: I personally use a 7mm Remington Magnum

That said, both are wonderful cartridges and a very capable. While the Weatherby round is slightly faster, there is not enough difference in performance to truly matter...

Unless you are planning on reloading or live close to a major retail supplier (Bass Pro, Cabela, etc) you would be better off with the 7mm Rem Mag... During this time of hard to find ammo, every Walmart I have been in has had ammo for it... it can be really difficult to find ammo for the Weatherby...

My 7mmag has always been my go to gun my 7mmag is not ammo picky and is a sweet shooting round most all my regular .... Rifles are a 7 mm of sorts 7mmag being my go to, my CDl.280 ,my savage 7mm 08 but I have multiple friends with wby chambered rifles from 30-378 all the way down to the 257wby and they love them but they shy from shooting them for fun not only because of cost but more of availability , kinda like someone that owns a exotic sports car u can't complain about it costing more to own when u bought the more rare item to being with IMHO I'd go with the 7mmrem but wby platforms are nice it's all what u want

Of the 2 I'd get the 7mm Rem.Mag.

I'd take a .270wby over a 7mm wby.

May look at all of the WSM's; 270, 7mm, 300.

What's your purpose for this rifle? Elk+ only? Deer only?

Do you own a .270? a 7mm? a 300?
