What do you think are the pros and cons of this caliber? I am thinking of buying this caliber but would like to know more about it. I reload so finding shells is not a problem. I am going to get it in the Vanguard SS if i buy one. It will be used for deer and antelope. Thanks for the info.
Also what model do you own?

I actually like the cartridge as I have taken pronghorn, deer, mountain goat and elk with my own 257wby.What I don't like is having to buy weatherby brass or a weatherby rifle.I would not buy a vanguard in 257wby as the 257wby really needs a 26" barrel to offer much advantage over the 25-06.

Not everyone shares my belief that the current crop of 25 caliber bullets are more suitable at 25-06 velocities than they are when pushed the 200-250 fps faster. I have hunted medium size game with both and have seen better performance from my 25-06 on deer size and bigger game. Only the very best of the best bullets will perform well everytime when pushed to the limit. After several years I just found that the 25-06 will do most things better for me than the 257 W. I finally got rid of the Weatherby. Have not missed it as I would move up a caliber or two if the 25-06 won't do the job. Its all in the bullets.

The new 110 gr. Nosler Accubond is looking like the bullet we have all been waiting for to use in high velocity .257's. My niece took a nice cow elk with one last month, and several other folks I know used them during this 2nd general big game season here with good results.
