ok don;t know if ya;ll know but i smashed my jeep and tore my pectoral muscle and yanked my neck up good, problemn is i can;t shoot any rifle i own other than my 22lr and my 223, now i refuse to miss hunting season because of some minor setback. so i have a blackhawk 357 and i plan on doing some deer hunting with it, i;m a good shot and i;ll keep em close. just ordered a bunch of ammo to try out got the winchester partions that i know shoot good already, some federal cast cores, speer gold dot soft points, and new remington core lokts all bullet weights are from 165-180 and all specify deer hunting on them.

i know this is considered a minimun for deer hunting but it; either this or my 45acp, i could use my 223 if i found suitable bullets but the thing is i can;t hold a rifle up long enough to shoot good.

Pauly.... I think the 357 is a good choice..probably out to maybe a hundred yards... if you use the heavier bullets to ensure penetration. I certainly wouldn't expect any dramatic "knock 'em down" type of kills, but if you drive one through the heart/lung area, you'll get your deer. If I knew I wouldn't shoot beyond 50yds, I might be tempted to use the 45ACP... I think a bigger hole is better... but at 900fps or so, it would just run out of gas too fast.... that's why I'd limit it to 50yds, and use the flattest tipped semiwadcutter style of bullet I could find. Of course, all this is purely speculation on my part, as I have not killed a deer with a handgun, yet. I wouldn't hesitate to use my Blackhawk in 45 Colt on a deer, out to 50-75 yds... because I haven't shot it at longer ranges to see what kind of groups I could shoot.
