Default Question regarding .300 WSM??

I have a 30.06 and a .308. Redundant, I know but my father in law died of cancer and left me the 30-.06 and I really like using it. In any case, the .308 is fine but I was thinking, what would it take to get it to shoot 300WSM? It already has a short action and 30 cal barrel so will it shoot .300WSM as is? If not, what does it need to convert over?

Actually it will take a bit of work to convert the 308 to 300wsm.The barrel will need to be rechambered, the feed rails reworked (unless it has a detachable magazine which could cause more problems) and the bolt face will need work as well.If you provide the make and model a better answer can be given.

Sure, thanks! It is a Browning A-bolt medallion in .308. It is a 1989 model, NOT A-bolt II... Push feed... detachable mag... what do you think I would need to have done?

You will need a rechamber and bolt work and probably a new magazine.I don't know if the a-bolt ii magazine fits the original a-bolt but if it does this will not be a problem since a-bolt ii's are available in 300wsm.

You'd be much better off selling the rifle and buying one chambered for the 300 WSM. It'll take a lot of work from a competent gunsmith (competent gunsmiths aren't that easy to find or cheap). When it's done you'll have spent a lot of money modifying a rifle that'll still have a factory barrel. It's not worth the money or the trouble.

I agree. It is a one in 12 twist instead of 1 in 10 also. So it would be better to sell it and buy a WSM in 300. Thanks!
