for those of you that have shot a watermelon isn't it awesome!!!! i went shooting yesterday with a friend to sight in our 06's and i found a little watermelon. so i say we should shoot it. after my friend got his gun sighted in he got out his 220 corelocts and started shooting then decided to try and shoot it. he move it around the first two shot and roled it off the berm and then shot two more times and had the elevation wrong. then on the 5th shot he hit it dead on with one of the big boys. i was watching through binos. one second there was a water melon, the next it was gone. pieces were flying through the air. it was pretty frickin cool. just thought i would share.

get one of the really big ones...yea a few bucks but it's worth it.....and punch it at about ten yards with a true big bore. I used a .404 Jeffery handlaoded pretty stiff. The .375 H&H or .416 mags will do the same I suspect.

what are some other things that blow up when you hit them.
Get two 2X4 studs about 12' long and sit a gallon of gasoline in a milk jug in the middle of the two studs set an 90 deg. The two studs set to form a equil legged cross at 90 deg. The milk jug must be square....look at them carefully...most are square.....round jugs will not be nearly as good.
Set the gasoline filled jug (cap securely attached) in the middle of the cross of 2 X 4s and the jug situated such that the flat sides aligned with the boards.
Get back a ways for this and a good rest as you want to hit this thing pretty dead center. Use something like a .270 or .300 mag...hi velocity is good but high energy is necessary here
At the end of each board is a candle sticking up and burning briskly.
Do it at night and take video if you can.....it's unbelievable!!!
shoot it from at least 100 yards.

find a safe place for this one.....a gravel pit is fine if it's big and empty.

They are cool, but hate wasting good watermelons. He better practice though a little before he tries apples and oranges if it took hhim that long to hit a bigger target.
