What Ammunition do you fire?
Do most of you guys fire Reloads? or do you buy factory ammunition? If you fire Factory, what Brand, caliber and Grain do you fire, and how are your groups with it. I usually shoot Remington, but Getting down to the last week before the Rifle Hunt for Moose and I need a new box, and none of the local gun shops have Remington 150 grn .270 Shells...So I'm thinking about getting another brand. Just wanted to see what other people shoot and how you fair with them. I notice alot of places carry Federal around here, so I was thinking of trying out Federal Premium, Nosler Partion 150 Grain shells. But i will need to get back out and shoot a 3 shot group to make sure they hit in the same spot as the Remington's do.
Thanks for all replies

I have never liked Remmington ammo, except 22LR. I have shot them all out of my 270. For your requirements I would suggest Federal Premium 150 gr. parts, Winchester 140 gr. Failsafe or Hornady 150Gr interlock. Federal and Hornady have always yeilded my best groups out of all my guns for factory ammo. I have taken 1 moose and 2 elk with failsafes, they worked well but only managed around 1 3/4" groups with them, the federal nosler parts grouped over 2" (But that was my gun not yours).
I would say if the 150 Gr bullets you used from Rem were parts, then go with the Federals. Don't be suprised what ever you choose or do if you need to fine tune, I have yet to shoot different rounds out of any of my rifles that stayed bang on from different manufacturer's, even with the same gr. and bullet style.

I shoot almost all reloads but if I have to buy ammo I look for the Winchester silver tips. Never had any trouble with Rems either. Also the Hornady custom loads are great. I don,t know where you live but Cabelas handles a good stock of all the premium factory loads.

For moose, using the .270 Win., I'd use the Win. Failsafe bullets. I think they are 140-grainers. (I personally never use factory ammo for hunting.)

I shoot reloads, allows me to tailor the load to my guns and my preferences, IMO the only thing Remington factory ammo is good for is making brass. For the game your say you'll be hunting, I suggest you go for premium loads, the Hornady interlok or Winchester Failsafes are about the the best bang for your buck. Besides if I'm not mistaken the Failsafes use the Nosler partition bullets. You'll pay for the quality of the loaded rnd, but compared to Remington ammo it's well worth the extra cost.

Thanks all for your replies.
I decided to Give the Winchester Supreme 150 Gr Parts a try. I'll be going back out to the range shortly to do any fine tuning that may need to be done, and I'm anxious to see what kind of Groups I get with the shells. I've been able to shoot 1 1/2" Groups or 6-7 Shells @ 100yrds with the Remington, and if these are anything like that I'll be plenty Happy. After All I'm not after perfect groups....I'm only looking to Hit a Heart <img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>
