I'm looking for some input on Hornadys light mag ammo, particularly the 165gr. interlock BTSP, an interbond for .30-06. How the interbonds compare to other ballistic tipped bullets like the sirrocco's annosler BT's?
And most importantly what "Light Mag" is all about? This ammo isexpensive, is it worth trying out? Is the 30-06 likely to group better with slightly higher velocitys??...........thanks to all in advance

I have chronographed several ,of the light magnum and high energy loads and none produced the velocity claimed by the manufacturer.Accuracy ranged from poor to fair in the rifles that I tested.

I had the same experience as Stubblejumper with the light magnums. Kind of a disappointment. The interbonds are good general purpose big game bullets - if they shoot in your gun. The Ballistic Tips are primarily for deer - they tend to shoot real well in most guns. The Scirocco's, at least the 165 and 180 grain .30 calibers, can handle game as large as elk and moose. Might be a waste of money for deer and antelope.

I would steer you toward the Federal High Energy 180 NP see the attached:

"We have put the new Federal "High Energy" rifle ammunition on the clock and we discover that it performs as advertised. The standard 30-06/180 has always showed consistent 2700f/s in a 24" barrel. The new Federal HE from the same barrel averages 2909f/s. From the 20" barrel of Lindy's Springfield the same bullet departs at 2850- for a loss of just 50f/s in four inches of barrel length. This provides the performance of a 300 Holland and Holland Magnum (24") in a Springfield pseudoscout. Very interesting! I doubt if the elk will be able to tell the difference, but from the technical point of view the project has been so far an unqualified success."
Cooper is on record prior to his testing that he was skeptical of the Hornady and Federal propoganda and held judgement until he ran his own tests.I have not seen anyone quantify the Hornady load you mentioned but the 308 and 30-06 loads seem to really benefit from the new powders and I would expect equally impressive performance. By the way the interbond has excellent terminal performance on big game and retains weight better that most. It or the 180 NP should make an excellent combo.

accuracy may not be the ammo...but the ammo feeder
