Danny what has your discussion with her about this revealed? It may not be as big of deal as it appears. If the recoil is intimidating to her, consider having her wear ashoulder pad similar to http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp?id=0022205221947a&type=product&cm Cat=search&returnString=hasJS=true&_D%3Aha sJS=+&QueryText=recoil+pad&_DARGS=%2Fcabel as%2Fen%2Fcommon%2Fsearch%2Fsearch-box.jsp.22&N=4887&Ntk=Products&Ntx=mod e+matchall&Nty=1&Ntt=recoil+pad&noImag e=0&returnPage=search-results1.jsp

a 223 with premium bullets on a broadside deer 150yd or closer will kill deer all day long if u put ur shot where it counts. Ive killed 8 deer with a 223 so i can vouge for what it can do. I dont feel under gunned when i take my 223 to the field. Just put the shot where it counts and the 223 will kill. I dont care what any of these other fella's say ive seen it first hand. Oh and btw i have never lost a deer shot with my 223 either. Get her a 223 and practice practice practice till shes shooting 1" groups or under which the caliber is deffinately capeable of and she'll kill deer!

Folks,
Thanks for all your help on this subject, I'm sure i'll have lots more questions in the future as we make attempts at different types of hunting.
She actually asked (without any coaxing)to shoot the 30-30 at the range this weekend after about 200 shots with the 22lr. She shot once, put it in the 10 ring at 100 ydsand said " looks like we are ready".
Now bowhunting all we have been doing in KY so far is watching trees grow. I'm sure we'll get there though
