For a "tutty tutty" I would say you have as good as ammo as is offered for it. Keep your shots under 200yds and know where to put em and the only other thing you need to be sure of is that your skinnin knife is sharp!

yeah it is i am only 15 and this is the very first high powered rifle i have and i was suppose to get a 7mag but things didn't work out the way i expected with my money
but next year i will have me a 270wsm
but the range for the for elk will be limited to 100 yards and no further and for deer it will be a limit to 175yrds
i have the up most confidence in that gun for what i am hunting so please just kinda keep those comments stating i am crazy for using the 30-30 for elk.i have to make what i have work.

the 30-30 has put more game on the table over the years for one reason... it's a fairly adequate cartridge for most any hunter or situation... especially non-dangerous game like deer...

Your 30-30 will work for the ranges you're limititing it to. But if your going to get real serious about elk, and are thinking about shelling out your limited cash on a new rifle I would try to persuade you to get the 300 WSM over the 270 WSM. As much as I love my 270 Win, and even though I know its capable, I will choose my 300 Win Mag over it for elk.
