Have any of you bought guns on the internet? Would you recommend that rather than deal with the small number of gun stores in your area? Can you get things cheaper or does it wind up costing the same after shipping. Do we need to ship it to a specially certified person or can we get it right to our door? I notice the Americans have to get it shipped to a FFL holder.

Me personally, I would never buy a gun, bow or optics off from the internet or any mail order type thing. I have to hold it in my hands, feel how it shoulders, look thru it and see what it looks like with my own eyes. Just a pet peeve of mine.
The three objects I mentioned above are very personal things that need to be evulated against others in my opinion. And see how they fit balance in your hands. I don't just buy something because so and so says I should. I might look at it for those reasons, but not purchase it sight unseen. I love savage and H&R rifles, however I would not expect you to run right out and get one because I said to. I would suggest going and handling one first to see what you think. And while you are in the shop handling it, you might as well get it there. They did pay to stock it after all so you could play with it and smudge it all up.
And answer all your questions when you ask them, which I am sure you will.
I might think about it if it was something I was familiar with or had previously looked at. I really like the personal touch though, even if it costs a bit more.
My advice being that you are so new at this, I say you need to find a good gun shop or club even. Get chummy with them and make your purchases there. The amount of information that is available to you in some shops far outweighs the money you will save. If something is not right for you, or you could do better for less they will often tell you. And if something goes wrong you will have support.
Just my opinion any way.
And I am pretty sure if you get a rifle over the net it will have to be shipped to a dealer any way. I think they need to go from dealer to dealer. And I bet Canada is even more strict. And they will most likely charge you for that. I don't know any of that for certain though.

Well I know I will join a club Because thats the only way you can use your pistol. You cant take a pistol in the woods for some odd reason? I would like to have one for hiking and sight seeing in remote areas but you cant.
When I buy new I probally will go to the gunstore in my area. But Im looking for a cheap pistol when I get licensed. and I see there is some cheap used ones of good brands that are quality certified by Sig. Thanks for the reply.

I doubt any police agency in Canada is going to give a transfer permit for a handgun to be shipped by mail. When you purchase a pistol, they give you a temporary permit to bring it in to them for inspection, then issue your regular permit. I just don't see them allowing one to float around in the mail.I also would stay away from internet firearms....just my opinion.

I just bought a handgun over the internet and recieved it in the mail last week. It is a pretty simple process. I dealt with a private guy not a store. Once we agreed on a price and I sent him the payment all I had to do was give him the info on my PAL. Then he notified the CFC of the transfer. I then confirmed the transfer with the CFC and waited for authorization to tranport. When I recieved the authorization I gave the seller the number and he sent it by Canada Post. It took about two weeks to get the authorization and five days to recieve it in the mail.

Personally, I would prefer going to the local gun shop. It helps your local economy and let's you talk to someone face to face who is knowledgeable
. You can save from buying online, but it can be a pain in the A*S, plus if the gun has a problem/defect, you're up a creek. I've bought 2 guns online,(they were discountinued guns). One was a nightmare getting [:@]; the other went very smooth. For the common guns though, go to your local dealer.

Im not sure what you have to deal with in Canada as far as buying and selling online but i have bought & sold online alot,,,to date i have not had one problem with any of the deals & i have saved alot of money. Most online purchases i have had give you a 3-5 day time period to inspect the gun & if there is anything within reason that you do not like about it you just simply send it back to the seller & he will refund your money. Between my Dad & I we have either bought or sold 100 times with no problems. My only suggestion to you would be to know the gun your going to purchase before doing so,,,such as make,,model,,, caliber,,,looks & feel,,,handle one at your local dealer so you know what you should expect the gun or bow to be like,,,also you can research make & model #'s before buying to make sure that there is no factory recalls such as trigger or safety mechanisms failure that you would have to have fixed once owned. I would shoot ya some good websites in this post but im not sure if that is allowed
hope this helps
