Stubblejumper - if you were from this area, you would cut that .080 group out to acredit card size piece of the target,and carryit aroundyour wallet. Anytime the conversation of accuracy came, you pull it out andlay it on table without saying a word - kind of like playing the ace of clubs at a poker game . . .

Truer words were never spoken.I did shootone .080" group at 100 yards with one of my 300ultramagsbut my average group with that rifleis closer to 3/4" with my hunting loads.As such if someone asks how accuratethat rifle is,I will tell them 3/4" becauseI amsure that I can shoot a few consecutive3/4" groups to prove it to them.

What would be the point?Since I have never matched that group,it doesn't prove anything.It was a fluke and I would nevertry to convince anyone any different.

I mean come on. Can't a guy just get lucky and have a accurate out of the box rifle?Maybe its b/c some peoplepay $2,000 for a custom rifle then an avg. joe with say a Rem. 700 out of the box comes and outshoots them?All this fussing rather someone can shoot or not reminds me of the last day of deer season at my old club.

We would set up a milk jug filled with water out at about 300-350 yards and sit around and make bets on who could hit it first. If someone hit it on the first shot, we would put up another and the next person would go. Then we would have a shoot off b/t the people who hit itthe first shot. It was so funny that the guys that bragged so much couldn't come close. You could see their bullets hitting the dirt at 200 yards. I would look at them and say " Didn't you say that 9pt you killed was at 250yds?" LOL.

Out of our group the .270's were always the most accurate.The 7mm mags sure held the distance. I seen more 06' bullets bite that dust at 200yds than any other. At that time I was using 130gr Core Lockts and they dropped like bricks compared to the Win. BTs but even they stilll would hit the jug on the first shot. One guy even tried it with a 303 British oneday. That was amusing. 350yds may not sound like much if you live out in the grain belt or plains where you can out shoot a 300wsm. Most shots here in SC are under 100 yards so thats what most scopes are set at, so this made a fun challenge.

This has nothing to do with this thread, but hey, calling a guy a lier doesn't either. Just thought I would share my thoughts.

Sure, I have been there with customs and then oldmossyoak33 comes up with his savage 300RUM and makes a big nice hole. It was humbling. But hey, I had a part in it, I gave him the load.:D

I usually make my own rifles using Mauser or M-70 actions with Shilen or Douglas XX barrels and Bastogne walnut. Most shoot very good groups and some occasio nally don't. But to say any of these custom rifles shoot 1 MOA is stretching the truth.

Look around at custom smiths and look them in the eye and ask.....If you build me a gun, will you guarantee me 1" groups at 100 yards?

Tell them that you want those groups to be with hunting style bullets.....specify partitions or any bonded bullet and not match kings or A-Max bullets. Just watch them qualify themselves.....make excuses and cloud the issue with circumstances and in the end never make a committment.

I assure you that having a custom gun built does not guarantee 1" groups.

I'm still of the opinion that the bulk of shooters posting on this and other forums stating that they shoot 1" groups will not be able to prove it at a shooting range in front of others. As for the ones that shoot 1/2" groups.....it goes like this..." well, I don't know what happened....this thing normally shoots little tiny groups" as they're looking at their last effort.....a 2 1/2" string.

I figured that I would udate you guys today on the situation in N.O. Our boats came back yesterday. They shut down the rescue operations due to too many porch monkeys with guns shooting at the helicopters and boats. The military and state police are going in to gain control. If it were me, I would open a season down there. The trash that is still down there shooting at boats and helicopters won't add anything good to society.....grind em up with the automatics and feed em to the pigs.....

I practice regularly at distances from 100 yards to 500 yards and to be honest,I would be a little embarassed to miss a milk jug at 300 to 350 yards given any type of field rest whether it be a bipod,my pack or a log or stump with a glove or jacket for padding.And that is with guns that shoot 1/2MOA to 3/4moa.

I can assure you that my gunbuilderhas never shippeda rifle to me that would not do better than 1".
