new rifle 7mm rem mag or 300 win mag?
Hi guys, i have a question i have decided to get a new rifle, i have decided on a ruger m77 mark2 sporter in left hand, it has black laminate stock with ss barrel. the thing is i am undecided between a 7mm rem mag, and the 300 win mag, i am definitely getting one of those calibers, what are yous opinions and this rifle and or these calibers and why? thanks for your time.

outback.....I just bought a remington 700 sps in 300 win mag....put a 3.5x10x50 vari x III on it in warne rings and bases....I love it. so far seems to shoot great. I told the old lady I needed a Moose rifle. Don't think I'll ever get to go Moose hunting but...hey now I got the gun. Personally I'd go with the 300....i like the idea of being able to throw a heavier bullet of a greater diameter downrange.

Either will do fine on game from deer to elk to moose. The 7mmremmag will provide less recoil if you are at all recoil shy while the 300winmag will provide more power.

Depends on what you are hunting with it. If you are primarily hunting elk I would probably use a .300. If not the 7mm is a peach to shoot well. I hunted moose for many years with a .338 win mag and dropped down to a 7mm rem mag 3 years ago and will likely never need more gun now that I have used the big 7. In 3 years it has killed 2 bull caribou, 2 pronghorn antelope and 1 bull moose. All with 1 shot kills with shots from 413 yds (antelope ) to 125 yds ( moose ). Boom, on thier nose ! I love my 7 mag.

It's actually been recently discussed twice now. See here...
