Quilly the nosler 170 flat does a good job on deer.
I don't have one but I load for a hunting bud.
and last year I say him shot a doe at 140 to 160 yards
and droped her in her tracks.
but i would say he had some luck on his side.
but for 100 yards and under, its fine.
but to pay 30 bucks for them??????????????????
it cost about 10 to load.

Quilly,
Look in bass pro shops or cabelas...they may sell these for cheaper. I saw them somewhere recently for $19/box, but I cannot remember where i saw them...maybe one of those magazines.
I use corelocts in my 30-30 and feel very comfortable shooting deer out to 200 yds. with them. However, deer in your neck of the woods are much larger than those here in NC. I'm sure the extra penetration of those bullets will serve you well. You may want them just in case you come accross a moose or large bear and have a tag for it. It is very capable of taking moose out to 100 yds and bear out to 150.

The only time I'd consider using a Nosler NPJ in a .30/30 would be if I had to use one for elk, moose, or larger bears! But there is really no need for these bullets in a .30/30, since, as mentioned by Otis, rhe velocity produced by the .30/30 case is just right for a regular old jacketed softpoint. As a matter of fact, the .30/30 is also great for use with cast bullets. I use the Lyman 31141HP in mine, cast medium-hard, at 2200 fps.
