So he asked me which one he should pick so i decided to ask you fellas. (30-06 is out of the ? so please kinda keep it to the three i have posted if you mindcause those are the ones he set his mind on)

Ok 2 answer deerslayers ? is he al ready had 30-06 and didn't like it so he got him self a 300wm but he originally wanted a 7mag(he doesn't kow much about guns but he know enough to get around and to him the 7mag is better then the 30-06 becasue of the flatter tragectory and more velocity and nrg) but like is said in the first postfor years he has just hunted with his 300wm with no back up gun and he has been lucky i would say............. that nothing ever happend to the gun and now he relizes that he has been lucky so he wants a gun that is going to be there just for his back up so he narrowed his "wants" to the 270wsm and the 7mag, there ballistics according to win.. website there are very close , i mean after all there is only .07 difference in between the two bullets[:-].
Icould understand if he had a 338mag i would sayyour back up should be a300wm,cause there is a big differnce butbetween the 7mag and 270wsm there is hardely any difference

Actually Hunter4life, there is only .007 inches (7 thousandths rather than 7 hundredths) between the two.
To be honest, if it were my delema between a 7mm and a .270 magnum they both would be in the WSM configuration. I have no use for a belted bottleneck case. The belt is useless and only takes up magazine space when that space could be used for either another round or extra case capasiity.
Now between the two bullet diameters I would choose the .270 over the 7mm. simply because it will do anything the 7mm will do but isn't so close to the 300 magnum to group the cartridges into one lump. I prefer to spread out the calibers a little until I get a wide range of power then I can start filling in the gaps with more similar calibers.
