RE: 338??

I haven't heard of a 338haro, But if you mean a HOWA bolt action in 338 win mag. Then I know the gun, Howa's are now importedby Legacy Sports International andare made in Japan at the Howa plant, that same plant, also makes the Weatherby Vanguard bolt action rifle's. The guns are well made and a good value.

Know nothinh about the barnd but as far as the .338 goes I love my Ruger and if you are hunting bigger game(elk and moose)...it is the gun for you. If you reload you can also reload some nice loads that would work for deer!

If it is a HOWA you should be happy if you buy it,some of the lower end HOWAS have barrel channeling problem from the stocks, but this can be fixed very easy with some sand papper.

As for the .338 win mag IMHO is one of the greatest rounds ever made.It is versitile from Teaxs To Alaska to Africa,to Russia. It can Handle game from small antelope to the Biggest Bears.

RE: 338??

ok sorry if i cause any confusion i was just not sure that it was the correct name,if you are hunting bigger game(elk and moose)...it is the gun for you. If you reload you can also reload some nice loads that would work for deer!, well considering the fact that i am only 15 i kinda changed my mind on what gun i want from the 7 mag to the 338 i will be using it for deer -big bears, and the reason i wanted the 338:D u wanted a gun i could grow into as an adult and so that it could be used in alaska for big bears! And another reason since i am coming up with the money for this gun i want my money to be "well used" and a gun that i will probally have doubts with.(And if the recoil is to high i will get me an after recoil pad;)) But i hope i made a right decision to the game i chosen to hunt!:)

RE: 338??

I have the opposite opioion from bbj. I think the 338 is a caliber with no practicle use. It does not shoot as fast and flat as the 300 Mag and doesn'n hit as hard as the 375 H&H. I had a couple of them and never found a use for them. However I had both bigger and smaller calibers as well. Some folks seem to like them, I would skip over it for the 375 for the big stuff and a 300 WSM for anything smaller. That is if I thought I needed a magnum caliber at all.;)

RE: 338??

The 338 is an excellent round, but if you are not reloading your own ammo, you may want to look at cartridge prices before you select as well. The 338 is not a really expensive cartridge to buy, but the 30-378 Weatherby is around $80.00 for a box of 20!!:)
