I would like to thank everyone here on helping me make my decision on what type of calibre and wut type of rifle to get.Because I am 13 years old and I love hunting and firearms more than anything else. And so on my decision I went with a winchester 30-06 bolt action model 70 with a leupold 2.5-8x33 power scope.I like it alot much more than my old 243 and I shoot much more accurately with it as weel because yesterday I wen tout to the old shooting range and I shot about a 1inche grouping at 100yards maybe even a little less.I just really love to shoot this gun. and at the very end of the practicew I had one shell left for my 30-06 and out on the field right beside the target there was a little gopher. Yeah u know what I did wit hthat last bullet already don't you.I lined up the cross hairs with the gopher and belive it or not I got the little bugger. And I would just like to let u know that none of my happiness ofr hunting would be possible if it weren't for my father. He got me into hunting and firearms. He is the one taht takes me to the range and he is the one that wakes me up at 6:00 in the morning to go hunting. So for everyone reading this I would just like to say thank your dad for everything he has done for you because mine has sure done alot for me.

VB you keep right on enjoying that rifle, THE best rifle is the one you have the most confidence in and can hit with. Sounds like you have found that rifle. Congrats and welcome too a lifestyle that will last you a lifetime.

VINNYB,
M-70 and 30-06. IMHO, an absolutely superb choice and a good compliment to your .243. Good cartridge spacing, you are wellon your way to building aeffective, wide rangingset of rifles. Good choice on the glass as well. Nice to hear a young'un at 13 years talking how they like an '06 instead of parroting the "recoil talk", at your age if you think you can then you probably can. Go get 'em.
Great that your dad is your hunting partner.
My dad wasn't a hunter, though great on all other counts, but my next door neighbor was ahunter and ended up being my hunting partner/mentor---- just that he was my grade school principal, which made it kind of interesting at times. That man taught me a lot about hunting.

Vinnyb you sound like a kid that will do very well in the hunting world. Good luck to you.
Same here EKM I had a friend of the family who was a hunting zealot teach me the ropes. Not many days go by when I don't think about that man. Too bad a lot of kids todaydon't have that mentoring.
