I bought a gun yesterday, good enough deal?
I went into Cabelas yesterday and bought a 58 Sportsman Remington, 12guage, semi-auto. It's blued and wood stock. Isn't in mint shape, has a few dents but the finish still looks nice. Has engravings on the sides of it. With my discount and pull I ended up getting it for $185. It's and older gun but looks similar to the 1187's, since it was made before them. But I thought for a brush gun it'd do nice. What do you all think?

My 1991 "Modern Gun Values" shows 5 different grades of Remington 58's
All estimates assume good to excellent condition w/ a premium for little things like checkering, engraving, raised vented ribs etc.
1. Sportsman 58-ADL $200-$275
2. Spertsman 58-BDL Deluxe Special $250-$350
3. Sportsman 58 Tournament and Premier; Tournament $725-$775
Premier $1250-1350
4. Sportsman 58-SA Skeet $300-$325
5. Sportsman 58 Skeet Target, Tournament and Premier....
Skeet Target (58SC) $350-$375
Skeet Tournament (58D) $725-$775
Premier Grade (58SF) $1250-$1350
Remember, these prices are from an 11 yr old book!
If your Remington 58 is ANY of the models above and in good condition then....GOOD DEAL!!!!
Even if it has minor dings and scratches but functions fine...then you still bought a good gun at a good price.
C'mon back on here and describe the gun with more detail......maybe I can pinpoint which model you have from the book descriptions.

I says "skeet" on the barrel of the gun. One side had an engraving of pointers and quail scene and the other side was a duck scene. Has a vent rib barrel, and checkering on the sides. 243223V is the serial number. Other than that, I can't find anymore info.

Sounds like you bought a Remington 58-SA.........
I think you made a fine deal.
I'd have a trusted gunsmith check it out for you just to double check and see if you have one of the very expensive models...... I don't think you do, but a professional can tell you.
