My choice would be the 6mm. The only caliber that compares to the 6mm in accuracy is the 22 LR. The 100 gr. bullet with an accurate shot placement is more than enough for white tail.

25-06 you can't go wrong,stay away from that 25 wssm it's a dying breed.
100-115 gr pills out of that 25-06 and there ain't no deer that it won't take.
Now all you have to do is get a scope.

Not wanting to start a fight but what is the best round for hunting up to a deer and why. I am going to buy a new gun in the next couple of weeks just wanted to know what you think.
I think the 264 mag is a great gun for deer size game at long distance as well as short too, you would have enough nrg and velocity for the distance if needed ! But out of the two you wanted to know about i would say the 25-06 would be a great gun for deer size game!

When you are talking about deer, what the 243 will do with a 55 gr. bullet does not count for much. Don't limit yourself in bullet weight for deer. Get the 25-06. I have both in my gun cabnet. For deer the 25-06 goes hunting and the 243 stays home. Thats not from a magazine or webb site. Thats from testing both in the field for many years. Good Luck with your new rifle.

I bet the 30-06 with a 55gr bullet shoots as flat or flatter than the .243. I would go with the 25-06 if I was going to choose between the two. The .260 would be an excellent choice also.
i bet that the 30-06 spring feild accelerator will shot with a higher velocity than that 243. @ ne distance, and have (KEYWORD)ABOUT(KEY WORD) the same nrg as the 243. ANd thats with a 55 gr bullet. and the 243 with the 80-100 gr bullet

James I aggree the 55 gr balistic tip is not a deer round. somehow this turned into a varmint round debate. The 55gr .243is the flattest shooter for varmints.

The ballistics show the 55 gr bullet out of the .243 to have 27 inches of drop @ 500yds with a 200yds zero, no the 220 swift cant do that no the 22-250 cant do that nor the -06 accelerator. but the .243wssm wins with the same bullet it has 25 inches of drop.
If you check the Federal Ammo site you will find it does not support your numbers.
The 220 swift with 40 g. bullet has a drop @ 500 of over 27".
The 22-250 with a 40 g. bullet has a drop @ 500 of over 28".
The .243 with a 55 g. bullet has a drop @ 500 over 29".
All bullets are ballistic tips. Zero at 200 yards.

I saw that, but I was reffering to winchesters silver tip balsistics, go to there web site, 27 " of drop with a 55 gr bullet and a 200 yd zero , and 29" with a 100 yd zero. this with a 55 gr bullet not a 40, pretty impressive.
The .243 wssm using the winchester siver tips had 25" drop
But you know what is really impressive is the federal 85 gr out of the .243, lot more umph, better wind control and only 32" of drop with a 200 yd zero. that would be my choice for extreme range varmint control.
I sawthe 7mm stw shooting a 120gr bullet with 27" drop @ 500yds with a 200 yd zero also, that is definately impressive.
