What is your go-to rifle for coyotes?

Around here the 22-250 seems to be favored. I know a couple hunters that put some serious money in their Remingtons and scopes, and even go out of state with them to shoot. We have yotes locally which we have not had in a long time. Heard them during the night... I used to hear them in the desert but never locally until this year.

Should thin out the cat & poodle population.

My varmint gun is an H&R .223 with a Leupold 2-7X33, which I want to replace with a 6-18 or 6-24 sometime. To date I have only shot jack rabbits with it. Have yet to hit a coyote yet. My handloads can print under 1" at 100 yds easy.

220 Swift. It's a HVA Mauser action, Shilen barrel, Boyd's stock, traister trigger and safety. 6x16 Sightron, burris bases and rings. Good shooter.... real bad medicine for Mr Yote.

I asked one of the hunters at the Gun Shoppe why he went to the 22 250 instead of something bigger, especially because he often took long shots and had to deal with the wind. He said "Well, yeah wind is there but the round gets their faster."

I was wondering about the cart to use for Coyotes as well. I have a very accurate Rem M700 in .22-250 but was wondering if I shouldn't go with a .243 win 85gr.

Your 22-250 will do nicely, but the 243Win. with 85gr.BTHP will do better - as long as you ain't worried about the hides. The 6mm bullets will buck the wind better, and carry better at longer ranges. However, if you have a good rifle in 22-250 as you noted, I wouldn't sell or trade it to get a 243. What you have will do. But, if you also have a
243 then that's what I'd recommend for yotes.
The 85gr. bullet loading for the 243Win. can be had in factory ammo from Federal's premium line, or if you handload look to Sierra for the same bullet, GameKing 85gr.HPBT.
