For $300??
The local shop has one. Good bluing, good bore, good stock, maybe a few small scratches, but nothing major. Laser etched bolt. I would give it overall 85-90% or so. Estimated manufacture date in the late 80's or so. Its been sitting there for a while, and I thought it seemed like a fairly reasonable price, but wanted to get some other opinions.

That price sounds almost too low. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the late 80's Model 70's that I know of. In fact I own one. Very servicable rifles but in this case with the price tag being so low I would be careful with this one.

Well, I do know a little on the history of the gun. I work at the local sheriff's office. We had a whole bunch of guns for various reasons, such as seizures for people who became felons, crimes, etc, and they auctioned them off, with the local gun shop getting the bundle of guns. This was one of them, so that could be why it may be priced so low. I am not sure why that gun was seized, but I do know it came from our office.

That is where I will be headed in 55 minutes, to check on what I can do. I know the smith and owner, so I should be able to get it held until I come up with the cash.
