RE: 243 vs 460 wby mag
".... n the 460wby mag is only good for 50 yrds before the bullets starts to drop, if you have a wby gun catalog it states that the 460 wbymag o.o's out 100 yrds...."
Second, IMHO, you are mis-interpreting the meaning of a 100 yard zero. For game of the type the 460 is normally used for, the range is typlically short, 30 to 80 yards, so a 100 yard zero is appropriate for such shooting, some folks even zero at 50 yards.
Third, with 400gr bullets and full house loads, a 460 is a formidable weapon on all counts at even 300 yards and beyond.
243 vs 460?
They are at opposite ends of the spectrum and their typical hunting uses essentially do not overlap.
Offer me one or the other and I'll take the 460 hands down, of course I don't find myself hunting prairie dogs, coyotes, or deer anymore either, as I really find my focus headed in the opposite direction.

Comparing ?
I was showing you the .243 is better than these cartridges. Has the bob beat all the way around, makes almost identical numbers the 25-06 does with half the powder, half the recoil, half the blast, with short action to boot. more accurate too!

No Way, NO HOW does the 243 beat the 257 Robert, 25-06 or 250 Savage when it comes to killing deer. I have killed a bunch with all four of those calibers and I am here to tell you that the 243 does not outperform any of them shooting deer. It only stacks up on paper and in in BS! I have been there and done that for many years. So while I enjoy the debate and it does help to pass the off season, I have seen them all in action as well as many other calibers. So just know that the BS part falls on very deaf ears at my house. You will continue to use it until it fails and I will stay away from it except for varmits for which it is pretty well suited.
Ha ha haa!
OK you are right.
Bullet speed, energy, trajectory, wind resistance, accuraccy, muzzle blast and recoil have nothing to do with what makes a gun better. Just JamesB's opinion. Your right ,your so right...
buwahahahaha !

200 yards and under o.k the deer I shot last year at 358 yards one shot it went about 10 yards and droped. thats what a .243 will do and it dont kick the $hit out of you..... You just have to know where to place the shot if you know that no problem

You "defenders of the faith" on the 243 crack me up. Without giving credit for any of you being mentally irregular, I have to assume you just like to stir up manure. To compare the 243 to a true Big Game rifle is total bunk! Here's an analogy for you 243 and velocity worshippers....
What would do the most damage- a Mack truck going 50mph or a Volkswagen going 80mph? I must give credit to Rebel Hog for this analogy. Here's another, what would you rather be hit by, a 243 with 100grain bullets or a 45-70 with a 405 grain bullet. the 45-70 is a heck of a lot slower but I'm betting it hits a lot harder. We could prove this point like you have(off the Remington Ballistics website) but I will assume you get it. The 243 is a fine little varmint cartridge and a fine beginners weapon,I'll even acknowledge that it's a passable deer cartridge but we all have to grow up sometime.

I'll play along with these stupid analogy's
SM, what would rather be hit in the head with, a hardball thrown by Noland Ryan, or a golf ball struck by Tiger Woods.
10 bucks says you'll live another day being hit by the hardball while the golf ball will kill you instantly.
PS. I'm not saying the .243 is better than a .460. It is better for whitetails but not for moose.

swampman if a man need a 45-70 to kill a deer and one needs a .243 I will tale the hit from the 45-70 you might take off a arm or a leg and some might get lucky to hit the body. but come on a man that uses a .243 will shoot your eye out that why he has that gun he is that good that he does not have to shoot .5 oz of lead to have a good clean kill. the people that i know here in va. and there are many will take a .243 or a 6mm at 100 yards shot .5 inch 5 shot groups. At the range where we shoot you take a egg at 300 yards and break it ? why waste the money on any thing bigger

I'm waiting on Wetherby to intoduce the ultimate deer killing machine.
The 6mm-460 Wby Mag!!!!
As great as a 6mm, 100gr bullet @ 2900 fps is, just imagine the awesome possibilities of driving it over 4,200fps
