Hunter,
If he has no problems shooting you 300 then buy him a 300 Winchester,or 300 WSM.They make quality ammo for both heavy and medium game like the 165 Nosler. There are plenty of guns that will fill the void,7mm Rem Mag,7MM WSM,300 Win,300 WSM,300 Weatherby,270 Weatherby,270 WSM and so on.
I have no qualms about shooting deer and antelope with my .338 win mag,I acually like it.It's not needed but hey it works.

true but i have heard that the 7 mag is a flater shooting gun n keeps its nrg at a distance(meaning that the gun still has a lot of nrg at a distance)
Plus i know what you mean but the 300 at this time is still to much gun for me, n plus at this time in my life i hunt more deer then elk and i really don't wanna "over gun" on wat i hunt. The reason i want to use the 7mag is because i have family out east in mo and i do hunt white tail so the 300 is kinda "over gunned" in my opinion.
another reason i picked the 7mag is b/c there is only 300flbs of nrg difference between the 7mag n 300. but both of these guns are really great guns and in the future if i wanna reload i should push out the same nrg as the 300 with stock ammo.

Hunter,
If you already picked the 7mm Rem Mag.,you have made a good choice. It will handle any elk or deer you come across.
It's alittle flater shooting than the '06 but not much, diffrence of 2 inches @ 300,and 6 inches @ 400.Realy it won't make much diffrence out to 350 yds,so get it sighted in and have fun.

Originally by BisquitJake: ".... one of the board members was going to take out a 416 Rigby. I wonder how well that worked...."
Let's see, per my remembrance, no recoil noticed, no muzzle blast noticed; however, body slammed elk very much noticed.

Anything from the 270 on up will work well. I know because I have used most of them several times. The 30-06 and 280 work real well.. Sorry double post.
