I would have to say that for the most part I do not feel the recoil of a particular gunwhile in a hunting situation. With heavy kickers likemy 378 WBY, 416 Rigby and 3 1/2" turkey loads I have to be well aware of what the gun/scope can do to you, so with those I do feel the recoil.

I agree about not feeling the recoil while hunting. I just returned from a black bear hunt in alaska and i was using a .300 weatherby mag. and when i shot the bear i was so into the hunt i never noticed the recoil

About the only time I remember feeling recoil while hunting was when I was about 9 years old. I was sitting down, duck hunting with an old 12 ga. Winchester singleshot shotgun. I spotted some ducks over my left shoulder, when I swung and shot, the butt of the old 12ga. was almost in the crook of my arm! To this day I couldn't tell you if I hit ducks or not! I was too busy hurting! I only shot that gun once, or twice after that! My dad had to get me another gun, I just would not pull the trigger! That was the only hunting recoil that I ever remembered, but I DO remember it WELL!

yea same thing. i thought about it when i saw your topic title and realized that when i shoot on a hunt i dont notice any recoil at all. I suppose im more concern'd about shot placement and droping the game instead of the kick..... kinda wierd when you think about it. how your brain can shut that off =)

Another interesting thing is what Statjunk brought up. I never seem to hear the muzzle blast either. It is interesting how it bothers the he## out of me at the range, but never in a hunting situation.

This is the premise I usually rely on to talk someone out of a muzzle brake - and into one of those rests that holds the butt of the gun. My ears will ring after shooting at game with a rifle that has a muzzle brake. Never feel the recoil. So sight in the .340 Weatherby with your Caldwell Lead Sled - and venture into the field with confidence.

Yep, shooting at the range and shooting in the field are two different sensations altogether. When I shoot at game, the only thing I feel is my heart thumping. I always hear the shot, but it seems very muffled.
