Default Best time to fish for crappie?

I ordered yoyo's from Cabelas a few days ago. When are the crappie heading to spawn. I think early March maybe, but is it too early to try now?

What depth would they be at right now?

I got into em last year with some yoyos and would like to have another good outing. I love them things, they're good eating, and fun to catch.

Thanks.

I always had real good luck in March, because I can remember catching a bunch of them when I was out on spring break. I usually found them in about 6 to 8 feet of water (stock pond is only 20-25 ft. deep). And yes, they sure are tasty.

The lake I fish in NorthCentral Ohio usually gets the hottest in early may. When the water hits 55 degrees here, they are usually hanging on brush piles in 6-15 feet of water.

Been doing good on them in central Texas for the past month. Catching them in 12-16 feet around submerged trees. I believe they spawn around the 1st of March. Several of the bigger females I've caught already have eggs in them.

Late April and early May in northern New England. The crappie will run up all the warm water canals and creeks to spawn. They also hang out on the northern ends of ponds where there are weeds in 2'-8' of water. We catch them most of the winter through the ice in the staging bays near the spawning grounds. After spring I find them in 15'-30' around structure like bridge abutments.

I had a good day at a Pond in MO yesterday 2/19/05. Caught 9 Crappie 9-11" a big Bluegill, and 5 descent Bass. This is the earliest I've caught Crappie in Ponds to any extent. Usually March-April is the prime time. Especially April. Think that's when they usually spawn here.
