RE: Best time to fish for crappie?
Late April and early May in northern New England. The crappie will run up all the warm water canals and creeks to spawn. They also hang out on the northern ends of ponds where there are weeds in 2'-8' of water. We catch them most of the winter through the ice in the staging bays near the spawning grounds. After spring I find them in 15'-30' around structure like bridge abutments.
