Default How to drop shot??

Could somebody explain how and when to use the drop shot rig? What hook, baits, and line? Thanks for the help.

I fish that way in deep clear water for small mouths in mid summer. I use lite line like 6 or 8 pound test and the set up is simply a sinker with swivle on the end of the line and I tie on a hook about 2' up using a polimar knot. I tie it so the hook is pointed up and place any finesse bait hooked through the end to simulat hooking a minow through the lips. Drop it down to where you are seeing fish with your recorder and jig it.

Champlain is on the money as far as drop shot is concerned. I either use it that way or cast towards the shoreline and work the bait back towards deeper water. All I do after casting is slowly raise and lower my rod tip. In the spring, the bite is soft and it feels like your snagged. In the summer, there is no doubt what is going on with the bait.
