I am writing from Balkan for some education. In VJ we have this freshwater fish which calls Ballatoncka {lepomis gibbosus} it comes from North America. You must probably know this fish the Americans calls it Sunfish or Bluegill. Now I am interested in this specie weight?
Thank you.

Greetings Ballatoncka from USA. There are several sub species of what are commonly called sun fish or pumpkinseeds and blue gills. In Vermont we fish for them year round primarily for their table fare. Around here you will get them up to 1 pound in weight but in the southern part of the US they grow quite a bit larger due to a longer growing season. I am about to go ice fishing for them in about an hour. They are very prolific and we usually catch buckets of them. Fishing for them with ulta lite tackle is the best.

Well thank you Champlain Islander for this information. DTD river channel is full of these species so other fish species are threatened. In our waters we have carps, catfishes {also from USA}, pikes, walleyes, roaches, breams and some other species which English names I don’t know. Sunfishes are pests that eat other fish’s eggs. They are smaller then yours but very good disseminated and annoying.
Please when you go fishing next time think about this.

Ballatoncka I did my best to thin them out today. I got 65 pounds of sunnies and 12 keeper crappie. Big snow storm coming tonight so I will have to give them a rest tomorrow.
