Good night catfishing
Went out Saturday evening and set out some bush hooks and yo yo
automatic reels. Caught over 40 pounds of very nice channel cats. Most were around 5 lbs.
I decided to try #4 circle hooks this time and they worked great. I didnt lose a single fish. (except for the monster that pulled all the line and went under a brush pile.)
These yo yo reels work great. You dont have to find a limber limb like the bush hooks. You can attach these to anything. Stumps, overhanging branches, logs, milk jugs, etc. I did learn though that when placing them in heavy cover I needed to tighten the spring alot more to keep the big ones from taking all the line into the tangles.
Alot of fun.
I'll post some pics later.

I didn't think I'd be able to use circle hooks (couldn't resist the temptation to set the hook) but I actually like them for cats. It is still hard sometimes to resist setting the hook.

Yo Yo's are awesome. We used to put them on set poles around my grandpa's pond and caught loads of fish. Down here we are required to check them every hour (I think) and cannot be out of hearing distance from them.
We had some set out on a big creek in South Arkansas when I was a kid and came back to find several only had the fish's heads left on them. Alligators and turtles took care of some pretty nice fish.

I remember as a kid growing up running trot-lines, yo-yo's & juggin!!!! Here lately I have been wanting to do some cat fishing & bass fishing real bad. Theres only one little problem, WA state isn't known for its really good fishing for either of these fish. I been thinking about checking out some lakes in OR, ID, or MT to see if they have some that is better than here.
