Contrary to popular belief though, females are difficult to catch when they are spawning.
I thought that was the popular belief!

Getting a female that's spawning to bite is very difficult. Your best hopes are that she'll attempt to move your bait away from the bed.

Already been said, use a big gaudy lizzard, drop in in and leave it, she will come.
Out west they use 10inch long rainbor trout suspending baits, but thats where the big gals swim.
The fish actually do not eat the lizzards or any other creature of the like that would eat her eggs. But they do attack and kill them and spit them back out. So when you feel/see her suck that lizzard in, be ready to stick her.
