I have a farm pond approximately one acre in size. I have truble with pondweed around the perimiter of the pond out to about four feet from the shore line. I was thinking about stocking some Triploid carp in the pond to control the weeds. Has anyone out there tried this? I could use a chemical to kill the weeds, but most of them say to prevent animals from drinking the water for at least 7 days or longer. I have several deer coming to the pond almost daily drinking from it, and I'm affraid the chemicals may affect them. I'm open to any suggestions.

I've fished state ponds/lakes F&W has stocked with these hybrids.
They are one big Weed Eatin Machine!
I hear they are very expensive. Might talk with your F&W dept for details.

The chemicals can have some bad effects unless you really know what your doing. If the chems kill off too much submerged vegetation, its possible that your pond's dissolved oxygen levels could go down and algea could start growing then the dissolved oxygen would only be near the surface of the water which is bad because the fish wouldn't be able to breathe, then they would die off, then the bacteria would decompose the dead fish, which would further decrease dissolved oxygen levels and so on. Phew...
By the way, do you know which chemical you would use to kill the weeds?
Your F&W might be able to help you out to. The carp might be a good idea as long as they dont eat all the vegetation. Better ask an expert about what to do just to be sure. Good Luck

where I live, we have grass carp in the lake. we also have NO vegetation whatsoever. If you do buy a few carp, buy less than you think you will need and see if you can buy sterilized ones so you don't get a lake full of carp.
