I got a minkota at wallmart they sell for about a hundred bucks works really well better than rowing the lake I trout fish on has a 7and a half horse limit so it works well not a big lake any way id say on how long they last depends on a couple of things how big a battery ,how much you turn the speed up and how well you charged it before you went fishing <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

DRACHE- THANX FOR THE WORD ABOUT BATTERIES. I JUST BOUGHT MY FIRST TROLLING MOTOR OFF EBAY AND WILL BE LOOKING FOR BATTERIES... WOULD HAVE PROBABLY FALLEN FOR THE HYPE. SO I GUESSS JUST A GOOD DEEP CYCLE BATTERY IS WHAT I SHOULD USE. WE ARE GETTING SET TO START BOWFISHING SERIOUSLY FOR NORTHERN PIKE AS SOON AS THE ICE IS GONE. IT WILL BE MAY OR JUNE BEFORE WE GET A CHANCE MOST LIKELY.

I've had a motorguide for 5 years now. Its has 65lbs of thrust and works well.
I have been using a sears diehard deep cycle for 10 years.. Best money I ever spent.
