Default Smallmouth in heavy current....

Goin fishing next week in a fairly small fast moving river. Every thing I read says to cast upstream because if the bait comes up behind the Bass it will scare it off. This is kinda difficult in current this strong. I plan on using cranks and maybe some plastics if I can keep them where I want them. any tips would be greatly app.....1B
