Default Lure of the day..

Folks..I get a lot of time off so I'm starting my lure of the day thread..where I fish primarily one lure each morning...and report how it goes..

JULY 6th ..This morning I fished the Horny Toad..from 6:00- 8:00
I felt peace in my heart and was in no hurry..I covered primairly shoreline and some hydrilla flats..My Toad stayed in place the entire time .I was using my President Pfluger on a 7 foot medium Ugly Stick..12 pound Trilene..

6:00 Pit is mirror still no fish are jumping..
6:32..First freak out smack type boil ..did not take the bait
7:20 ..2nd boil ..did not take it
7:25 A turtle grabs it and lets go
STRUCK OUT[8D]

Tomorrow..God willing,I will fish the 3/8 White Rooster Tail...anddrifta rubber worm across my lap likeI used to fish in the 80s ..2 rods at one time..black worm Texas Style or Trick ..not sure... Same spot..which I plan to make a map off Google and post.. ASAP

The Chartrues Green is hydrilla
The Yellow Spots are bass 5 pounds and up I've caught..
the red numbers are the pit's depth
Any suggestions from the pros would be appreciated.

This spot is only 1 of 5 main spots at Saddle Creek I fish..However..one of my best.It would take 4 hours to fish a spinnerbait around this entire area..on the shoreline

Looks like a place I would try to find. Looks like a nice place to fish chuck. If I were you I would try to keep it secret.I would also fish in those deep pits in the heat of the day.One time I saw some one that used a carolina rig to catch some big fish and win the tournament, wish it was me!

The best part..there is no boat
ramp on this side of the park.
.thank God for small boats..
Mostly I'm here by myself..and
mostly everyone else in FLorida
are catch and release anyway.
.I did troll a deep diving crankbait
in the 30 and 20 foot area for
about 15 minutes to no advail but
I agree with ya..I will be doing alot
of drifting Carolina Rigs this summer
through areas such as this. I have
one more good spot I will post later
next week. I plan to hit this area
hard this week..
Thanks for the feedback

Chuck have you tried going down to 15 to 25 feet in the 30 foot water? fish do not always lay on the bottom in the deeper water. They like to find water temps and food that will suspend in certain depths. Another good rig is a thermometer that you can drop over board to get the different temps at certain depths. They are a great indicator at what depth the fish will be laying at. Good luck!

I apreciate that Phil..
I haven't tried the thermometer but
that certianly makes great sense..
Today..I'm going with the Rooster Tail
for a few reasons..to learn perfectly the
depths..fish the entire area..shallow
mid depth and deep..I will be dragging
along something rubber..not sure yet.
Before I got educated this was how
I always fished..mostly Rooster caught
1 pounders BUT quite a few times
you'd hook up on a MONSTER out in the deep
I'm hoping for that to happen today..I will stay in
Spot one..and fish to about...10 ish..If a wind
comes up..I may Carolina Rig 2 rods
and drift for an hour ..I know of one man
who regularly catches MONSTERS..he drifts
2 rods with 10 inch worms..He says ,"I seldom
get more than one bite but it's always a huge
fish." I need to investigate the thermometer
idea..I have heard about it..I mean face it
Would we rather eat in 70 degrees or 110degrees
A steak outside at 110 loses it's appeal to me
but 70 degrees..Let's Eat..

I would try fishing a black trick worm rigged weightless over the hydrilla.

Amost struck out..they were not
biting ...I picked up a couple like
these on a black worm at Spot #2
I was anchored at the number 13
between the 2 islands of hydrilla..
and bumping a worm ..and I got one
at the number 10.
Most excitement..I got a hit on a jig..
that is
always a thrill for me because it's so
rare..
I missed him[:-]

On the 2nd photo..look at the bluegill that
fell out of his mouth.[8D]

Its neat when you catch them with something still in their mouth. How long did you fish with the rooster tail? No bites with the rooster tail?
