horny toad

What is the best way to fish these things and do I need the hooks that come with them in a kit . Also where I fish there are not to many frogs and I do not catch many fish on topwater . So would this be a good bait to try ? And if any one has fished at weiss lake you would understand . The water is stained and has lots of shallow weeds and a few trees scattered around . I have caught one bass on a rage tail toad , and have not tried any other toad bait. Also what color do I need ?

OK..
Horny Toads in my area are probably better than live shiners..
WHy??Because it's hot..you can cover alot of good cover quicker in these hot summer days..
I use a #4/0 Gatzukami worm hook..no weight at all.
Cast long and treat the frog as you would a rubber worm..the fish will boil...and then run ..when line is straight..set the hook..The frog will sink so fish it like
squish squish squish pause....squish squish squish pause..fish it in thick cover because it's 100% weedless...Big fish love this bait for some reason..
Color..I've only caught them on bullfrog..I have tried watermelon, pearl and a couple of other colors..to no advail.
My son Matt caught a 5 pounder on watermelon.

Gangly,
I don't think color matters too much..What I do think matters though is introducing the fish to something new..
Three years ago the county opened up 7 new lakes..and only 4 boats at a time could fish those lakes..folks would sleep all night in their trucks to get a spot on the lake. When we fish those lakes we still have to fill out a creel sheet and release ALL bass. The first 2 months every lake was yielding many 10 pounders and each fishermen was catching up to 50 bass each and more..After 2 months..fishermen were only catching 3 -5 fish and nothing over 2 1/2 pounds..The fish wise up..
Those first 2 months the fish were biting anything that was thrown,,ow..the only thing that seems to work now are shiners..live bait..
