Large Mouth Bass ?
#1
I have never caught large mouth bass before and was wondering if they like the same environment as small mouth bass do? We have 1 lake in this area that has both large and small mouths in it. I normally fish this lake for it's white perch fishing but have never fished it for bass...I was also wondering if they are mostly long and thinner then small mouths.. I was wondering because when I look at the tourney photos they look that way but might be the way they were held up..

You're right, the smaller ones are slimmer than smallmouths of the same size. They start filling out at about 4 or 5 lbs.I've never seen any waters where theyhave all the markings of a smallmouth so they tend to look lighter also.

Thank you for the reply and I was wondering with both large and small mouth bass in the same lake do they hang around together or do they stay away from each other?

Phil... I fish several lakes that have both largemouths and smallies..
The smallmouths tend to favor somewhat deeper, rocky bottoms...The largemouths tend to favor shallower water, weeds and soft bottoms..
In New York's Finger lakes, where I do a lot of fishing, you'll catch smallmouths around rocky points and shoals, and largemouths in the shallow, weedy bays...
Hope this helps..
