What exactly does a bullet weight do?
#1
i have been told to use a "bullet weight" whenever i use a plastic worm...i have not tried it yet but i was wondering what the difference was between it and a regular clip on weight....also would u use a weigh whenever you fishin with a plastic worm or not?

A bullet weight has a hole in it and does not squeeze on so it will slide. There are two ways to fish plastic worms, carolina rig, and Texas rig. They both have their good points and bad points. You are fishing one of those rigs by using a crimp on weight, The person who told you to use a bullet weight fishies the other rig.

Exactly. I use the bullet weights for the Texas rig. When you retreive, you want the weight to slide back up the line a little bit...thats why its not crimped. The weight will fall anf bring the plastic worm to it, so you get the boomp, boomp, boomp effect accross the bottom. Thats how I land the monsters...when I DO land the monsters. sometimes I use a big plastic salt worm with no weight, and it falls more naturally, and you'll get the hit as its slowly sinking down...then another jerk up, and slow sink and so forth...

i figure it would slide up and down but wouldnt the weight of the bullet weight weigh enough to stay close to the swivvel? that is what i though but i am not for sure...

Not sure why you are using a swivel if you are trying to use a texas rig. With a carolina rig a swivel is required. Here are some links, I hope this clears some things up for you guys. Sounds to me like you all are confused.
Texas Rig: http://www.bassfishingusa.com/Rigging/rigging1.html
You can also rig a texas rig without the bullet weight depending on what presentation you are trying to get.

haha i dont use any of those....i just start at the "head" of the worm with the hook and go down until the straight part of the hook is covered.i dont do nothin fancy like the texas or carolina rig.i havent been taught like that. but does it matter how you rig the worm? like in your opinion which is the best.....and i use the swivvel because if the worm isnt working i can quickly and efficently put something else on like a crappie jig for example...

I use all of these rigs about equally. It depends on what the fish are doing. You are missing the point here! One of these rigs is not better than the other. They are totally different techniques, meaning you use them at different times under different circumstances. For instance if I want to cover water quickly and find some bass, I will throw a carolina rig and use it as a search bait. However, if I am fishing heavy structure or vegetation I will generally throw a texas rigged worm. The idea behind the texas rig is the hook is not exposed therefore it is weedless meaning you can fish it in the heaviest cover you can find. The way you are rigging your worms is fine but you will get hung up on everything if you try to fish structure. And for god sake take off that swivel. It only takes a few extra seconds to tie a polamar knot. And you will have better results in the long run. If you any further questions feel free to ask.

dont use snap swivels. they are not any good. when you get into bass fishing you learn not to use them use the swivel with holes on both sides.
