The speckled cat is a channel cat it seems.

CHANNEL CATFISH
Scientific Name: Ictalurus punctatus (Rafinesque)
Other Common Names: spotted catfish, silver catfish, speckled catfish, forked-tail catfish, fiddler

( fiddler?)

Take a closer look at the tail. Channel cats have a forked tail. Channel cats vary in colour but always have the forked tail. I have caught them black as coal w/mottled belly, tones of green/brown and varying shades of gray/blue. Here's pics of the 2 bigger channel we caught last night B4 the bty's died in my camera[&o]. The one w/me is greenish w/white bellyand the one of my buddy is grey. We also caught 12 drum and I got 1 bullhead. We got 5 cats total all over 30"....... luckily we got the pics of the biggest 2mine was 33.25 and my buddies was 34.5.
How are those cats to eat and have you ever fished there at dusk/night. Cats in my area tend hit at dusk and then again at 1-2am. Thats from shore........ from a boat you can hit the right spots and they hit all day. You just have to search for the spot that is most active in a given hole. 3-4 guys in a boat can hook 100 fish or more on a good day....... with a good capt.

Forgot to mention......... Nice fish childers, dems is what I look for, for the table mmmmmm. And I like the look of them too. Pond, creek, lake or river????? Ever try shrimp or cut-bait? And how big is big for those guys. I've hooked good fish this yr but not big by local standards. Its all relative.

That speckled cat kind of looks like a relative of a bullhead.
