Default ice fishing pike

how did everyone do this year with pike through the ice? Me and my dad went to Wizard Lake Alberta and caught a few. I read on a different forum about people using hotdogs! We used shinners and smelts and i also decided to rig half a hotdog on one line an actually had a fish take it. any1 else ever use something as strange as hotdogs before as pike bait?

I had awesome success this year, i was at Travers Reservoir Alberta for most of my pike fishing, seen about 20 plus fish over 33" pulled out of the ice this year, caught 3 big ones myself, in total i caught probably 40+ pike, but i think the oddest thing ive used for pike was this year and i know this may not seem weird but i had never thought of it but i used 10-14 inch Jack and Chub Mackerel for the big guys.

This was a real bad season of ice fishing for me. I caught about a dozen pike but all were very small. And this is the first season that I never caught a single walleye.

Hehehehe...I've used hotdogs for channel cats, but never for pike...

Lethal.... I'm not aware of any freshwater mackerel...I assume that those you were using were the saltwater type.... Frozen...??....

Yah they were saltwater and frozen but had to thaw them out before using them so when you put the quickstrike rig on they sit horizontal and the fish including burbot were hitting them.
