Default Alaska Trip

I had the opportunity to fish Alaska last summer...I got an invite from an internet forum friend to come up to Juneau Alaska and fish with him on his boat..The understanding is that he's to come here to NY and hunt spring gobblers with me...

I went up the first week of August...We fished from his 19 footer for halibut and salmon in the sheltered waters near Juneau...It was an incredible trip for me..Every day we had whales jumping and breaching around us and we saw all kinds of sea birds and mammals...The scenery is absolutely breathtaking, with mountains and glaciers all around...

The fishing was super...I caught 4 of the 5 main species of pacific salmon.. The only one I did not catch was the red/sockeye... We mostly trolled for the salmon with downriggers and a rubber squid/dodger rig... We fished bottom fishedbait for halibut in 300 feet of water...Caught a bunch..The biggest we caught that week was 85 pounds...

I'm hoping to return this summer...This time I'd like to take my girlfriend and stay at a B&B or motel and do some sightseeing, hiking, and , of course spend a couple of days with my buddy on his boat fishing...

That is WONDERFUL..So glad it worked out for ya. I got an invite to Missouri to hunt Whitetails..It went very good to. We are best of friends. Last year I couldn't go so the man sent a White tail by UPS to my house.
God blessed,

Chuck...You mean he had the meat from a deer shipped to you..??..

That was cool... I've shipped small amounts of meat to friends, but never a whole deer..

Over the years I've had some great hunting and fishing opportunities arise from forum friends...

LOL

No ..I diidn't shoot it. I didn't get a deerlast year so my friend called and said."Do you want your deer cut in steaks or roast?" I was over joyedto say the least. I said roast. He sent me 60 pounds of venison in a cooler 2 day express. The meat was still frozen. The cooler had a red bow on it.

yes I agree for as far as expenses go it would of been very costly, but, wouldn't it been a real nice trip to go on though. Congrats on your trip and I hope you can enjoy many more.

That Alaska trip sounded awesome man..I was very concerned about my trip meeting someone on the internet....Man it was great..Like we were long lost buddys. We call each other weekly. Teh folks in Missouri live like they are back in Mayberry..very laid back. The entire county is like one big hunting club. Everyone ,everywhere is wearing camos...not alot of cussing.either...just laid back strong country boys.

That sounds like a great time too, Chuck, that is what it is all about going and meeting folks that enjoy the same things and having a great time of it. The laid back way of life is how we all live up in this area as well. The only draw back is if we want to go shopping you almost need a plane to get there. Maine is so scattered out but, I love it here.
