I had the opportunity to fish Alaska last summer...I got an invite from an internet forum friend to come up to Juneau Alaska and fish with him on his boat..The understanding is that he's to come here to NY and hunt spring gobblers with me...

I went up the first week of August...We fished from his 19 footer for halibut and salmon in the sheltered waters near Juneau...It was an incredible trip for me..Every day we had whales jumping and breaching around us and we saw all kinds of sea birds and mammals...The scenery is absolutely breathtaking, with mountains and glaciers all around...

The fishing was super...I caught 4 of the 5 main species of pacific salmon.. The only one I did not catch was the red/sockeye... We mostly trolled for the salmon with downriggers and a rubber squid/dodger rig... We fished bottom fishedbait for halibut in 300 feet of water...Caught a bunch..The biggest we caught that week was 85 pounds...

I'm hoping to return this summer...This time I'd like to take my girlfriend and stay at a B&B or motel and do some sightseeing, hiking, and , of course spend a couple of days with my buddy on his boat fishing...
