My son caught one in broad day light through the ice crystal clear water sandy bottom with a jig pole shiner on for bait in about 3 feet of water we saw it swim up and take the bait long story short it's the only time I've ever seen it happen in 46 years of fishing in NH

I catch a few every winter while ice fishing for pan fish. While fishing for sunnies, gills and crappie the bullhead are a fairly common catch.
