I've fished out of the jon boat but never owned one. If you are
thinking about used ones try looking in the clasifieds of your
local news paper or a swap and sell it guide if your area has one.
Around here they use anywhere from a 9.9 up to a twenty five
horse on them. But, it still depends on how big of water you plan
on fishing on, and how far you are planning on traveling on the
water. Also be careful when buying a used motor as I would want
to see and here it run. Anyways Good Luck !

I'v never tried a jon boat but for the motor Iyou really don't need more than a 10 hp. We have a 14 foot alumacraft that my family has used since about 1975 and a 5 hp 1963 boat motor. That motor kicked us along pretty fast. Now we got a 8 hp mercury and we absolutly fly with that thing.
