Default Which reel

I am looking for a new reel. I will use this mainly for bass and catfish. I fish on a lake with a lot of rocks and not much brush. I was looking at an Ambassadeur reel. My price range is about $60. I like the Ambassadeur reels, but they only have one bearing. Does this effect the preformance? Thanks

I like the 1300 Quantum that Walmart sells under their glass case. It's a baitcaster. I have 3. Put that on a Lightening Rod Medium heavy action.,and you have a nice set -up. Garcia isn't bad either. I've had my Quantums for over 3 years wiothout any problems.Smooth cast no backlashes yet. Got 8 bass in the boat yesterday. I use one for flipping, one for crank baits and one for casting worms. For in -line spinners I would use an open -face spinning reel.If it's your only rod...I would buy an open faced spinning outfit. They are very versatile. Twenty years ago when I was a poor college student,I bought 2 cheap Walmart spinning rods for my wife and I .We caught tons of big bass and bluegill with them.

well, one of my all around workhorse reels for bass is a Abu Garcia 5500 C3. bought it for $55 last year on sale at cableas, they should still be at that price last i checked. great reel. 3 BB's i think. its not quanity so much as quality. This smoothness and quality you get for that money rivals alot of the stuff you pay $80 or $100 for. Abu Garcia reels are some of the toughest on the market, i love 'em.

thats a decent reel, I had one of the earlier models years ago fished with it once wasnt really to my liking I took it back and went to another store and bought a daiwa pro caster x153i. A friend of mines father in law who fishes alot of tournaments between missouri and kansas swears by the 1420MG reel, he says they are priced right and if he has a problem with one of them he can go to any walmart when hes on the road and pick up another.

Even the Abu Garcia 5000 with no ball bearings will last for many many years. Walmart sales that one for 39.99. I have a couple of them. One has made 20+ trips to Northern Sask. fishing Northerns. I have casted it thousands of times and have no I dea how many big pike I have taken with it. I bought two way back then so I would have a spare. So far I have not ever needed it. Caught a eight lb Northern with it this afternoon.
