I have a model 70 in .270 caliber, it out shoots my Rugers and 700 Remingtons, I have never been anything but pleased with Winchesters, I can't say that for the other 2 brands.

Don't know how much you shoot but one 1 1/4 in group from a bench rest out of a hundred groups isn't to good to me.
Just had the win rebedded and it still won't shoot to my liking, going to have the crown checked next to see if there is something wrong with it.If I didn't like the looks and feel of the rifle I would have gotten rid of it before now. I don't varmit hunt but do have a heavy barrel savage in .223 cal.it is out of the box and shoots very well. Comparing groups out of my out of the box browning in 270wsm is like comparing a mouse to an elephant. Maybe my expectations are a little high but I have other rifles out of the box that shoot at least several groups less than 1 1/4 in. The groups below are shot from an out of the box browning 270wsm,these are the kind of groups that I was expecting from the winchester after finding the right loads but don't look like I am going to find a load even close.Have other groups like these using out of the box savages, rugers, rem brownings in different calibers, even have muzzleloaders that shoot less than an inch, once in awhile, @100 yds out of the box after finding the right load. ![]() |

I guess every manufacturer has it's supporters and detractors.I think they all put out some lemons.I maybe lucky but I have two Winchester Model 70 Featherweights and they both shoot very good right from the box.The fit and finish on mine are both very good also.By the way I purchased one at Gander Mountain, and this last one a Dick's(sale $449.00) a 25WSSM,below are a couple of pictures to illustrate my point. This is shot out of the box factory ammo no modifications.

Strut just out of interest when did you buy those guns? |
RE: Seems alot of people knock Winchesters mod 70..why!!!
Seems to me that the very best Remingtons were built in the 60,s,70's and early 80's when they were owned by Dupont. I have owned Winchester pushfeed rifles that shot extremely well but were built in the 80's. The last few I have bought with exception of a Super Shadow were just incredibly inaccurate. The SuperShadow in 7 WSM was ok but it got old after a while..No floorplate and that stock.

ORIGINAL: frizzellr Had a Winchester once. Would rather have a Ruger. Tougher and a better value. Ditto frizzellr! I have 4 Rugers. |
