I agree with BRIMAN . . . I hunted with a Model 37 for many years. Made a fine upland game gun. It is light . . . so it whacks you, but who cares when you are hunting. Yep . . . it is a tiger when you shoot slugs! But most shotguns are. The Model 37 may be the best pump shotgun ever made. They still make them and I would LOVE to have the re-introduction of the 16 gauge. Makes me drool thinking about it

By the way, I assume you are in Garden City, Kansas . . . from your previous posts. I taught for several years in Syracuse . . . went to church in Garden City. Nice place . . . good community college . . . best pheasant hunting in the world around there. If you don't want that Ithaca I will be glad to take it off your hands [8D]

GCK Probably what you have is a Ithaca Model 37 Featherlight if it's a pump shotgun. They are a great shotgun. If I remember correctly Ithaca was in financial problems. I can't remember if the were bought out or restructured. The Model 37 was discontinued . It was reintroduced back in 1987 and was later called the Model 87.Most were chambered for 2 3/4" shells. They did release a 3" model.

Slugman my understanding when Ithaca was going through hard times the M37 was stopped. When it started back up is was called the Model 87 back in 1987.As far as I know that is accurate.I had a Featherlight with 2 3/4"chamber. I sold it when I picked up a 37 with 3" chamber. The 3" mag model I have has a high gloss finish very similar to a Browning or Rem 700BDL.Really a nice gun.I just looked it up in a Gun Traders guide. The model 87 ran from 1986 and discontinued in 1996. Some of the Model 87 were discontinued even earlier then 1996.I just found a Note on that page.

Previously issued as the Model 37,the model 87 guns listed below were made available through the Ithaca Acquisition Corp.. From 1986-95.Production of the Model 37 resumed under the original logo in 1996.

I hope that clears your question up.

you had stated earlier that the M37 became the M87 , but nothing about it being reintoduced again as the M37. Your post says discontinued. Well , whatever , its a great shotgun.

Slugman if you read this it says that the Model 87 was made from 1986 to 1995 and were called the model 37 again starting in 1996.Like you said either way a great shotgun.

GCkid, I also have my dad's Ithaca 37. What a great gun with a great history. the blueing is worn off the receiver from him carrying it so much. Take the gun, use it and take care of it, and pass it on to your kids.

My dad has a 37 and has for 27 years. Kicks like a mule and is a pain to load (to me). I will say it is a beautiful gun and never game him a seconds trouble. Dad promised me the gun when he is done hunting. I have a special place for it in the gun safe, but I don't see myself using it too much. I just don't get the attraction to the 37.And I love pumps.[&:]

Once you get it from your dad , and USE it , you'll understand. Has to be one of the finest pump guns made. IMO
